Repairs and Service Response

Requesting repairs

Our Facility Services partner office provides maintenance and housekeeping. Residents can request a repair of college-owned property by filing a work order with Facilities. RAs can help a resident fill out the form their first time.

Technology related issues have their own work order with Information Technology.

Examples of work students request:

  • Non-working lights
  • Broken furniture
  • Broken window screen
  • Clogged sinks or toilets
  • Heating/cooling system malfunctions
  • Dirty bathrooms, hallways, stairwells, lounges, lobbies, classrooms
  • Hard-to-open doors
  • Strange smells
  • Individual electrical plug issues
  • Down internet
  • Malfunctioning public campus printers

How staff respond

When a student files a work order for their room:

  1. Facilities will check the availability the student listed for themselves in the work order.
  2. If a student says anytime, a technician will go to the room and knock on the door announcing they're from Facilities.
    1. If a student does not answer, they will unlock the door and announce their presence before entering. They will then conduct the assessment, repair, and clean up process.
    2. If a student is present, they'll have a short conversation about if now is a good time.
  3. If a student gives a range of specific date/times, Facilities will coordinate a date with the student by email.

When an emergency occurs and the student of the room didn't report it themselves:

  1. Facilities will respond to the room immediately.
  2. They'll knock on the door announcing they're from Facilities and then enter the room. They will then conduct the assessment, repair, and clean up process.
  3.  After treating the issue, they'll provide the room's student(s) the reason they went in, what work was completed, and if they need to return. This may be in various methods such as hand-written notes, email, phone calls, etc.
