Section 2: Job Overview and Descriptions
A Resident Assistant (RA) at Cornell College is one of many leadership opportunities within the Division of Student Affairs. The RA lives in a residence hall and serves as a leader, helper, and resource person for students. The RA serves as a critical link between the students on their floor, the Assistant Directors of Residence Life, and the Residence Life Office. This leadership opportunity requires being a representative of the college and a representative of student issues in the hall and across campus.
Depending on the RA assignment, they may also work closely with the Living & Learning Communities and campus houses/apartments with students that often desire more private and independent environments.
Since RAs are encouraged to take advantage of off-campus study opportunities throughout the year, there is occasionally a need to hire a Hall Staff Assistant to temporarily cover a portion of a staff members responsibilities while they are away. While this position is primarily focused on assisting with the on-call rotation and duty coverage of the assigned building, it can occasionally include some additional expectations as far as community development and other RA-related responsibilities.
As a student staff member, it is vital that you fully understand and adhere to the requirements and additional expectations of the position for which you were hired.
