After hours services for mental health

The Ebersole Health and Wellbeing Center is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. during the academic year for medical needs (mental health and physical health.) Outside these hours, please refer to our list of local resources.

If you are experiencing a severe mental health crisis (e.g., thoughts of suicide or homicide, hallucinations), you should consider being examined by an ER physician at a local hospital. You can contact Campus Safety for assistance in obtaining an ambulance or connecting you with on-call Student Life staff outside after 4:30 p.m Monday-Friday and on weekends.

Mental health resources

Abbe Community Mental Health: 319.398.3562. Emergency calls  are answered 24 hours a day.  During business hours, you can call to talk with an intake coordinator, schedule appointments for mental health care, and get referrals for other types of mental health services in the Cedar Rapids area.

Foundation II Crisis Line

Call 319.362.2174 24-hours a day. This crisis line staffed by trained volunteers. It is a good resource if you need someone to talk to and find referrals for therapists or groups in Cedar Rapids.

Guidelink Center: 319.688.8000. Provides easier access to immediate, onsite assessment and stabilization—outside of a hospital setting—for those 18+ years of age who are experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis 24/7.  300 Southgate Ave. Iowa City, IA 52240.

The Jed Foundation: Provides mental resources specifically for young adults. Text “HOME” to 741741 for a free, confidential conversation with a trained counselor 24/7.

Riverview Center: 888.557.0310. Center in Cedar Rapids that offers free and confidential services for survivors of sexual violence. Services include 24-hour crisis hotlines, legal, medical/social service advocacy, counseling, trauma-informed therapy, transition/basic needs assistance, and more.

The Steve Fund: supports the mental health and emotional well-being of young people of color. Text “STEVE” to 741741 for a free, confidential conversation with a counselor trained to provide culturally sensitive support.

The Trevor Project: Provides resource for students who identify as LGBTQIA+ members of the Queer community. Text “START” to 678678.
