Log into Self-Service and find your account balance under the finances tab.
- Assign FERPA SPID to each individual you authorize to speak to college personnel on your behalf.
- Be sure your parent or authorized person knows the number you’ve assigned them. They will need that number if or when they call in to speak with Cornell personnel.
- Be sure to check the appropriate boxes to the right of the individual’s name. If you do not check the Student Accounts and Financial Aid boxes, we will not be able to speak with the individual about details regarding your account.
- Without a FERPA release, Cornell will not be able to speak with parents regarding a student's bill and the student will be solely responsible for providing information to the parent.
Please note the student name and ID # on the check and mail to:
Cornell College Student Accounts Office
600 First Street SW
Mount Vernon, IA 52314-1098
Please be sure to request the funds from your 529 plan administrator in time to arrive at Cornell by the due date. Also, request that the student name and ID # appear on the check and have it mailed to:
Cornell College Student Accounts Office
600 First Street SW
Mount Vernon, IA 52314-1098
If you think the check may arrive late, it is a good idea to send an email to studentaccounts@cornellcollege.edu to let us know the amount of the payment as well as the date the payout was requested.
If you have not submitted all necessary paperwork to complete your financial aid file, your “need-based” institutional along with your federal and state financial aid will not credit your student account.

There is an origination fee on the Federal Direct Loans and on the Federal Parent Plus loan that the Department of Education withholds before disbursing your loan funds to the college. More information about how educational loans work.
Billing statements will show the net amount of the loan that was disbursed, while your financial aid award showed the full amount of the loan you borrowed.
Your work study award is not a guarantee of funds. If you work on campus, you will get paid bi-weekly. You may apply your check to your student account each month if you would like to.
Your outside scholarships will not credit your student account until the check is received from the scholarship donor.
You, the student, should email financialassistance@cornellcollege.edu that you want to decline a part of your financial aid. Please be sure to state what you want to decline in the email.
