  • Cornell counselors are able to offer support, or may refer to a community provider depending on the student’s needs

Some Cornell students receive gender care in Iowa City at the LGBTQ Clinic and the Emma Goldman Clinic in Iowa City provides gender affirming care. Other students may choose to go out-of-state to see a doctor who can prescribe the necessary medications. You can refer to the oneiowa list of local support centers for Transgender and Non-binary clients by location.

Reproductive and sexual/gender health for minors

In the state of Iowa SF 538 bans health care professionals from giving medical treatment “for the purpose of attempting to alter the appearance of, or affirm the minor’s perception of, the minor’s gender or sex, if that appearance or perception is inconsistent with the minor’s sex [at birth].” The legislation went into effect September 2023.

In addition, Cornell follows the state regulations for all minor consents.
