Room Selection General Information
General Information
Residency requirement
A student must be eligible to be housed to participate in the room selection process. Check your eligibility against the residency requirement.
Intent to withdraw
Students intending to withdraw the following academic year and wish to not participate in housing selection including emails, phone calls, and in-person outreach should contact the Registrar no later than the deadline date. Once a student makes their intent to withdraw, Residence Life will be notified and the student will no longer be eligible to participate in any room selection activities (including resident assistant selection, Living & Learning selection, and the suites and apartment lotteries) and will also stop receiving communications about room selection. Students who do not select a room for the following academic year will be eligible for a refund of their enrollment deposit (less any charges owed to the college). Refer to the Division of Business and Enterprise Services' information on enrollment deposits for more details.
Room rates
Regardless if you're living in an apartment, suite, or traditional residence hall, housing rates are based on the occupancy of the specific room you're living in. Most rooms on campus are occupied by two or more students. Students living in a multi-occupancy room will be billed the standard double room rate. Learn more about room rates.
There are a limited number of single-rooms available. Students living in a regular single room will be billed an additional cost per Block above the standard room rate. Learn more about room rates.
Financial holds
By the start of Block 7, anyone who still has unresolved financial holds will not:
- be eligible to select a room nor
- be selected as someone's roommate
Their financial account must be resolved to be eligible for housing selection again. Please know that resolving financial holds can take a day or more for Business Services to process and notify Residence Life. Do not delay in resolving your account holds.
Notification of room draw class status
An email will be sent to all eligible students by the number's draw date regarding their room draw class status. Learn more about how your class status is determined. If you believe there is an error in your room selection status, please contact Residence Life by the deadline to make changes to the numbers draw, see the deadline. After this deadline, all classifications will remain as they are.
Roommates
During room selection, students can choose any other eligible current student for a roommate, regardless of class status. It is each individual's responsibility to find their own roommate(s). Future students, such as transfers or incoming first-years, do not qualify as current students.
If you are seeking a roommate, fill out the Need a Roommate Form. Completing this form will give you access to a list of others also searching for a roommate. Be sure to check back often to review submissions. It is your responsibility to contact and make arrangements with potential roommates to select a room. Once a roommate is found, both students should delete their roommate forms to avoid inquiries from others. We also encourage you to attend the Roommate Social between the room draws for singles, triples, and quads and the draw for double occupancy rooms.
If at the end of all the lottery processes you still do not have a roommate, you will be assigned one over the summer by the Residence Life staff and placed in an available room at that time. Finding your own roommate allows you to use the better number from numbers drawn as opposed to waiting until all other students have selected a room and being placed in any other remaining room.
Housing Options
Learn more about each residence hall to see a list of rooms, dimensions, and floor plans. Information about whether a floor is substance-free, or if the floor is designated as single-gender or all-gender is also available. A binder of floor plans is also available in the Residence Life Office for in-person viewing.
All room gender designations and capacity limits related to being singles, doubles, triples, or quads are subject to change during the process based on the needs of the student population.
Relocation and room changes
All housing assignments selected during the room selection process are considered final until after the start of the following fall semester. Room change requests will be accepted during the next academic year. Contact the Residence Life office for details regarding what Block room changes begin. Note that Residence Life does reserve the right to relocate individuals from the room they chose if necessary.
List of available rooms
We offer a real-time list of available rooms for students as the lottery process proceeds. The list of available rooms will be updated and running on the start date. Rooms may be removed from this list for many reasons including selections made by students, being assigned for accommodations, or other considerations. Students should take caution from making plans based on the list if they have not checked it recently. Every attempt to maintain an accurate list is taken but some errors may occur.
Many single rooms will be filled prior to the single room lottery, either through Resident Assistant selection, singles inside special suites or apartments, via housing accommodations, or are held for projected housing accommodations and emergencies.
Lottery number carryover
Students' room draw numbers carry over between process types (i.e. apartments to singles, singles to doubles). Students do not need to generate a new number for each subsequent process. During the late spring semester, room draw numbers do carry over to the single room waitlist for those who did not secure a single room during room selection but voluntarily sign up for the waitlist.
Waitlists
Anyone who did not secure a single room and would like to be placed on a waitlist, should a space become available over the summer or throughout the following academic year, can enter the single room waitlist starting at Noon on Monday after doubles room selection concludes (see the dates).
For students who want to be considered for other room options even if they did not get it, contact Residence Life after room selection to be placed on the triple, quad, or specific building waitlist.
Any submissions prior to these waitlist start dates will be discarded. Anyone who enters a waitlist between noon on that day and 4:30 p.m. on May 31 will be placed on the list in order of their class status and room draw number. Anyone who signs up on June 1 or later will be placed on the list in the order of the date and time in which their application is received and their room draw number will not be used.
Late room draw
Students who missed selecting a room after the last selection process, doubles, can still pick a room on the following weekend. The selection of remaining rooms will be small. On the following Monday, the room selection site will be closed. Students who still have not selected a room starting the following Monday must contact Residence Life to discuss being placed.
Computer issues or errors on the room selection website
If students are unable to log in to the room selection website, the website is not working, or they do not receive a confirmation of their room selection during the doubles lottery, students should contact the Residence Life office immediately. Together with Information Technology, we will work with you to resolve your issue or select a room on your behalf as quickly as possible.
