Music Performance Major (B.Mus.)
As a music performance major, you'll appreciate how the block plan provides you with a daily routine that makes carving out practice time easy. Everyone on campus follows the same campus rhythm—class begins at 9 a.m. and the two hour lunch break begins at 11 a.m. with class resuming at 1 p.m. and wrapping back up by 3 p.m.
A typical day: Giselle Nguyen '20, majoring in piano performance and management)
7:00 a.m. | I wake up, and like to take my time getting ready for the day.
8:00 a.m. | I head to the cafeteria and eat breakfast, which lasts about a half an hour. Then, I talk to my parents in Vietnam for a bit before class.
9:00 a.m. | I go to my music pedagogy class.
11:00 a.m. | When class is over, I play the piano for an hour.
12:30 p.m. | Personally, I like to wait until 12:30 to have lunch so that it's not as busy. My go-to station in the Hilltop Café is the global station.
1:00 p.m. | I have class again from 1-3 p.m.
3:15 p.m. | I'm in choir and we have practice three times per week for one hour.
4:30 p.m. | After choir, I like to get in a second piano practice, which usually lasts for about an hour.
6 p.m. | For dinner, I meet up with some friends at the Hilltop Café.
6:30 p.m. | After dinner, I either go to the gym or to RA (residence assistant) meetings.
8 p.m. | I'm usually on duty in the RA office. There, I'm available to answer any questions or concerns that students may have.
11:30 p.m. | I like to be in bed by 11:30, earlier if possible!
