Student Literary Arts Board (SLAB)
The Student Literary Arts Board (SLAB) sponsors a variety of activities throughout the year that are open to all students, including a murder mystery for Halloween, blockly book recommendations, and Free Write Friday, which takes place at the Van Etten-Lacey house 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Fridays from 3:30—5 p.m. During Free Write Friday, students write creatively, complete class work, and socialize while enjoying treats fresh from the oven.
SLAB’s annual event is publishing the “Poetry for …” chapbook. The theme is different every year, and SLAB hosts an event in which campus experts present on the theme to inspire creative writing. The SLAB officers and committee members review all submissions and select those that will appear in the chapbook. Poetry, prose and artwork can be submitted by students, faculty, and staff. SLAB members are also invited to learn how to hand-bind the books. The year culminates with the chapbook release party.
SLAB holds meetings twice a block, and all members have input into what kinds of events the group plans for the year. If you are interested in becoming a general member of SLAB, please contact the current president.
Being a member of the e-board is also a pre-approved Ingenuity in Action leadership experience. Elections for e-board take place each spring.
