What to expect of weather in Iowa

The temperature in Iowa can range from below zero farenheit to over 100 degrees farenheit at different times of the year. We experience all four seasons and it's important to stay prepared for extremes.

Campus Safety regularly monitors the weather forecast to alert our campus community to extreme weather conditions including:

  • excessive heat
  • extreme cold and icy conditions
  • severe storms
  • tornado warnings and watches

Get weather warnings via R.A.M. Alerts

When extreme weather events are forecast or the national emergency system issues an alert, Campus Safety alerts the campus community through email and text messages by our R.A.M. Alert System. Be sure you're opted-in to receive this critical weather information.

Tornado Shelters

Tornado season in Iowa extends from late spring into early summer, so it's important to know where the closest tornado shelter is to where you might be on campus. When you get a R.A.M. Alert or hear the city sirens go off, seek shelter immediately
