High School Senior Countdown

Cornell residence life students pose on move-in day.

Graduation is around the corner

Big and exciting changes are taking place and maybe you can't wait to start or maybe you have some anxiety about leaving home for college.

  1. Before you step foot on campus, take some time to feel what you feel and talk about what you're feeling with someone you trust. No emotion is out of place or wrong.
  2. Spend time with your closest friends, especially if you’re leaving for different college campuses. No one ever regrets spending time with people they care about.
  3. As crazy as it may sound, spend some time with your family and find ways to say yes! to family time. Like to bake? Ask your family to bake with you. Like to bike? Pal up for a ride. Just make some memories while your home is still your primary home.
  4. Make a preliminary list of items that are necessary to bring to campus and a separate list for wants. Most first-year college students overpack, so err on the side of less is more.
  5. If you can, take on that part-time job and save up the funds for when you arrive on campus.
  6. Do you still have questions about residence life or dining or anything else? Reach out to your admission counselor and ask them what they know. Or ask if you can speak to a student who has completed their first year.
