Summer Academic Credit Opportunities

Students have different options to obtain additional academic credit during the summer months. Students may earn credit toward their degree by participating in independent study, internship opportunities, or transferring credit from another institution. How do I sign up?

Complete a summer internship contract  or a summer independent study contract, get the required signatures, make your payment, and turn it in to the Registrar's Office before leaving campus for the summer.

How many hours do I have to work to get a credit?

Typically 160 hours of service to receive one course credit. Faculty supervisors may also require additional work toward academic credit, such as a journal or final project.

When can I start?

You must start after Block 8 and complete the work by August 15.

Can I get credit for an internship or project I've already done or just started?

No. Credit is not awarded retroactively.

Can I still do an internship or project during the year?

Sure. That's still included in your regular tuition cost, if you choose to do so during a block.

Are there any prerequisites?

Students must have completed at least 7 course credits and have a faculty sponsor.

Acadeum College Consortium

Cornell College students can access a list of pre-approved transfer courses on Acadeum College Consortium. These consortial courses have been pre-approved by Cornell College for
students to request registration. All Acadeum courses are offered online and asynchronous.

  • Click the link and make an account using your first and last name, then select the "Sign up" button.
  • This should automatically link to your Cornell account using Single Sign-on.
  • Register for pre-approved course(s).
    • If you don't see a particular topic or subject area, it might be there, it just isn't pre-approved for student viewing yet. Click the "Don't see a course you're looking for? Request a Course" button at the bottom of the page.
  • Cornell Registrar's office and host institution verify registration, then you will be registered for the course.
  • Remember, 1 Cornell credit is equal to 4 semester hours. So a 3 semester hour course will transfer in as 0.75 Cornell credits (which does meet the minimum requirement to fulfill a general education requirement or a major/minor requirement).
  • Course fees are $1200 for 3 credit hours and $1600 for 4 credit hours.
  • Upon approval to take the course, the course fee will be added to your student account. Payment of the course fee is due by the first day of the class.
  • Monitor your Cornell email daily for instructions from the host institution on accessing your course.

Submissions are approved on a student by student basis. If you have any questions, please contact the Registrar's Office at registrar@cornellcollege.edu or 319.895.4372.
