Math courses which are locked into certain Blocks (for the foreseeable future)

A = “Offered in all years”
E = “Offered in Even-Odd academic years—e.g. 2006-2007”
O = “Offered in Odd-Even academic years—e.g. 2005-2006”

New 300 level courses to take

• MAT 301 (offered yearly in Term 3: Prereq.: MAT 221. Beginning in 2006-2007, MAT 301 is required as a prerequisite for the 327-28, 337-38, or 347-48 sequences.
• MAT 317 (offered every other year beginning in 2006-07) Prerequisites are CSC 140 and MAT 236 (MAT 336 under the old curriculum)

Which calculus course to schedule

• Students who have had no calculus at all
  
  If a student’s math placement form recommends starting in “Functions” (a course which will no longer be offered), or if the student desires a review of basic algebra skills, or if the student just wants to try out calculus to see what it is like (and has no previous experience with it), then start them in MAT 119-120. These courses will always be offered in consecutive terms. B.A. credit in mathematics can only be earned after completing BOTH courses.

Can MAT 236 and/or MAT 231 count as a 300 level course?

Yes. Students who began at Cornell under a catalog which listed these courses as MAT 336 and MAT 331 may have them count as a 300 level course. A petition requesting this should be submitted to the Academic Standing Committee through the registrar.
