What is the Casting Call at Cornell College?

Casting Call Students posed for the camera

The annual Casting Call at Cornell College connects the Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) staff with Cornell College students. Casting Call is an event but also an ongoing opportunity for you, a Cornell College student, to share your story and likeness across mediums, print and digital, as part of Cornell’s marketing and communications.

The Casting Call event

Casting call student being interviewed on camera

Held once a year, typically in the fall. You can sign up for 10-minute time slots where we take a professional photo of you and ask you a few questions on camera. You will get the chance to leave with some Casting Call exclusive Cornell swag (it varies each year, but in years past, that might be a new Cornell hat, a Cornell scarf, Cornell gloves), and typically a treat in exchange for your time. You will also get a digital copy of your photograph – we call it the “headshot,” which you might want to use in the near future on your LinkedIn profile or other digital platforms when you apply for jobs.

We want to know you!

What will you gain besides the swag, the headshot, and the treats?

Examples of marketing materials

Experience being interviewed – great prep for job interviews. A chance to share your unique experience at Cornell with staff who want to amplify your story across Cornell’s publications.

The digital platforms: cornellcollege.edu, news.cornellcollege.edu, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, and the Thomas Commons screens.

Print publications: postcards, brochures, Cornell’s viewbook, Cornell’s alumni magazine, and posters

The Casting Call as an ongoing opportunity

We might use a snippet of you on video on social media or on our website. We might use a photograph of you to talk about what life is like on the Hilltop. We might use a direct quote from you to talk about your experience in your academic major.

We also host other Casting Call opportunities throughout the year. We might want to invite you and other Casting Call students to pose for photography in the residence halls, while you go sledding down the hill in winter, or inside a classroom or study space. Or we might reach out to you to ask for a quote about what it is like to be a student-athlete at Cornell, what you love most about the block plan, or how Cornell has prepared you for the next step in your educational journey. Whenever the Office of Marketing and Communications wants someone to represent Cornell’s students, we may ask you to step forward.
