Optimizing Your Images

Optimizing images is an essential step. You have to get the right balance between filesize and picture quality. Look at any webpage, and you will see that most of its load time comes from images. Your website will be needlessly slow if you don't drop the sizes of these images.

  1. Click on FIREWORKS in the task bar (at the bottom of your screen).
  2. Open an image.
  3. In the OPTIMIZE palate on the right of your screen, use the drop down menu and change the settings to JPEG BETTER QUALITY.
  4. Now you'll export your image as jpeg. go to FILE: EXPORT.
  5. Navigate to the images folder of your department website.
  6. Name the file. Keep the .jpg extension.
  7. Click SAVE
  8. Close the image. DON'T SAVE changes to the imge.
  9. If you have more images to export, return to step 2.

Once the image is placed in Dreamweaver, add the PHOTO Cascading Stylesheet (CSS) to your image. It will place a lovely little border around the image. To open your CSS palette, go to the WINDOW menu and choose CSS Styles.

Pages generated with this template need to be saved as .shtml files.
