The Food Chain
Playwright: Nicky Silver
Director: Roy Hamlin

The Food Chain is a dark comedy about relationships, body image, and self actualization. All the characters struggled comically to resolve how they viewed themselves versus the perceptions of the outside world. The fall 98 mainstage was a departure for the theater program in that it only featured five performers, the smallest cast since HEDDA GABLER in 1992. This allowed for concentration on the complex modern script and real actor attention to character development.

Trina Nance earned her third Irene Ryan consideration for the role of Amanda. Peka Poyer received her first for the role of Bea, Amanda's telephone crisis line listener.

the boys and girls are one tonight.
they unbutton blouses. they unzip flies.
they take off shoes. they turn off the light.
the glimmering creatures are full of lies.
they are eating each other. they are overfed. at night, alone, i marry the bed. Anne Sexton
