Department of English & Creative Writing

The Department of English and Creative Writing offers a broad range of courses for majors and non-majors alike, including off-campus courses ranging from Chicago to Namibia and courses that emphasize global and social concerns such as “AIDS Literature, Film, and Social Theory” and “American Nature Writers.” The major fosters a general understanding of English and American literary history while
enabling students to concentrate in one of three areas: literature, creative writing, or film studies.

Students can also take part in Cornell’s vibrant literary life by attending the Visiting Writers Series, studying with a Distinguished Visiting Writer, getting involved with the literary magazine, Open Field, or joining one of the many creative student organizations on campus.
