Campus safety overview
Our mission is to provide each member of the Cornell College community with a sense of security throughout campus by promoting a safe learning environment at all times and educating students, faculty, and staff in matters of protection and responsibility.
Cornell College has a cooperative relationship with the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Police Department (MVLPD). MVLPD provides patrol and response to incidents in Mount Vernon, Lisbon including the Cornell College Campus and surrounding areas. When a Cornell College student is involved in an off-campus offense, MVLPD may contact Campus Safety for assistance or to relate information. Mount Vernon- Lisbon Police routinely work and communicate with Campus Safety on any serious incidents occurring on-campus or in surrounding areas near campus.
R.A.M Alerts
Cornell College uses the R.A.M. (Rapid Alert Messaging) Emergency Notification System to assist in campus-wide notification of physical threats or other emergency safety measures. This system disperses instant and simultaneous email or text messages to all faculty, staff, and students who have registered for this program.
Campus protests
Cornell College is an institution of higher education that aspires to develop lifelong learners and engaged citizens. Consistent with that mission, we strongly endorse freedom of speech, as articulated in the First Amendment, as an inherent right of individuals to express themselves. Expression and personal identity are inextricably intertwined. Further, while freedom of speech and expression are accorded constitutional protection in our civic life, the value of free expression must be given even more rigorous affirmation in an intellectual community that prizes liberal education, academic freedom, and critical thinking.
