The Anthropology program introduces students to anthropological methods and perspectives. Cornell offers no specific major in Anthropology, but students are encouraged to create an individualized major, pursue a combined Sociology/Anthropology major, or combine Anthropology courses with those of other disciplines.
Students with an interest in health fields benefit from Medical Anthropology, a course supported by the Dimensions Program. And further relationships with Biology and Geology students and faculty are made during a block-long Research Methods course at the Gerace Research Center in the Bahamas.
The West Indian islands of Barbados and Trinidad also provide Cornell students with extraordinary locales for anthropologic study. Students in West Indian People and Culture spend a month visiting these two proximate islands with very different cultures, and complete research papers based on their observations.
In addition, Music students may benefit from support in ethnomusicology; Religion students gain insights into indigenous traditions through Religion, Magic, and Witchcraft; and Women's Studies majors have access to courses with multi-cultural perspectives. These and other relationships give students across campus a deeper understanding of the multicultural world we live in.
