Minimum System Requirements

DIVISION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

 

Minimum Specifications
The following specifications are determined by Cornell’s Information Technology department:

SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Although previous Windows Operating Systems may work on the ResNet system, only Windows XP/Vista is supported by our ResNet staff. Most retail computer and office supply stores sell Microsoft Windows XP/Vista.
  • If you are buying a new Windows-base computer, please make sure it has Windows XP/Vista as the operating system. All other Windows operating systems may create network security concerns.

HARDWARE

  • A computer running a network ready operating system, such as Windows Vista, XP, and Apple OS X.
  • A 10 or 10/100 Ethernet adapter
  • A category-5 (RJ-45) network cable (25' recommended length)

SOFTWARE

  • All critical Windows updates and service packs (Microsoft-based operating systems only)
  • Cornell's McAfee Antivirus* (FREE to all Cornell students)
  • Cisco Clean Access*

*Can be downloaded when you arrive on campus

Many of our students are now bringing wireless capable devices. These devices can be used in the Cole Library, Commons, and limited spaces in College and Law Halls.
