Using Cornell's Printer-Copiers

DIVISION OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY


Cornell has Printer-Copiers (P-Copiers) throughout campus that students are allowed to use. Instructions on their usage and locations are available on the Cornell's web site. Use the instructions below for connecting your computer to one of Cornell's P-Copiers.

Black & White copying costs $0.04 per impression while color copying costs $0.15 per impression. Each student is allotte $40 for copies/prints for Blocks 1-4 and $50 for Blocs 5-9. Billing for overage occurs after Blocks 4 and 9. You can check your usage on Cornell's web site. You will need your student ID to print to the P-Copiers.

Copy cards can be obtained from:

  1. Cashier's window in Old Sem
  2. Service Center located in the Commons
  3. Russell Cole Library
CONNECTING TO A NETWORK P-COPIER (WinXP)

Follow these instructions to connect to a campus pooled printer.

First, you must map a network drive in order to authenticate to our print server.

  1. Right click on My Computer and select Map Network Drive.
  2. Next to Drive select P:
  3. Next to Path type \\print\printers.
  4. Click the Reconnect at Logon checkbox.
  5. Click different user name.
  6. Next to User name type in CORNELL-COLLEGE\YourUsernameHere.
  7. Next to password type in your email password.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Finish

Now you can install the printer.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Printers.
  4. Double click Add Printer.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select Network Printer.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Enter the full network path of the printer you want to install (example \\print\Commons1stFloorP-Copier). The pooled printers are:
    • \\print\College1stFloorP-Copier
    • \\print\Commons1stFloorP-Copier
    • \\print\Law1stFloorP-Copier
    • \\print\Library1stFloorP-Copier
    • \\print\Library3rdFloorP-Copier
    • \\print\OldSem2ndFloorP-Copier
  9. Click Next.
  10. Enter a printer name. (example Commons1stFloorP-Copier)
  11. Click Next.
  12. Select No for printing a test page.
  13. Click Finished.

 

CONNECTING TO A NETWORK P-COPIER (OSX)
  1. Open Printer Setup Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities).
  2. Mac OS X 10.4.x users: Choose Add Printer from the Printers menu, then hold the Option key while clicking the "More Printers" button.
    Mac OS X 10.3.x users: Hold the Option key down while choosing Add Printer from the Printers menu.
  3. Choose Advanced from the first pop-up menu.
  4. Choose Windows Printer via SAMBA from the Device pop-up menu.
  5. In the Device Name field, type the name you would like to use for this printer in Mac OS X (can be any name).
  6. In the Device URI field, use one of the following formats to link to the printer:

    smb://user:password@server/printername

    Notes: "user" is the name of a Windows user who has privileges to use the printer. "password" is the password of that Windows user. "workgroup" is the name of the Windows workgroup to which the computer sharing the printer belongs. "server" is the name of the computer sharing the printer or its IP address. "sharename" is the shared Windows printer's share name.

    If your user name is j-doe and your password is Cornell07! you would connect to the library p-copier with the following URI:

    smb://j-doe:Cornell07!@print/LibraryPooledPrinters

  7. Choose the appropriate PPD or printer driver from the Printer Model pop-up menu.
    For the library printers listed above that would be Sharp AR-M355.
    If the driver is not listed you will need to download and install the driver. Sharp drivers for the P-Copiers can be downloaded at:

  8. Click Add.

MAC 10.5 Leopard Instructions

  1. Open the Print & Fax System Preferences panel.
  2. Click the plus sign at the lower left corner of the window.
  3. Right-click on a blank spot in the Toolbar and select Customize Toolbar.
  4. Drag Advanced to the toolbar.
  5. Click Done.
  6. Choose Advanced.
  7. In Type, choose Windows .
  8. In the Device URL field, use one of the following formats to link to the printer: smb://username:password@print/printername
  9. In the Device Name field, type the name you would like to use for this printer in Mac OS X (can be any name).
  10. In the Print Using field, select Driver.
  11. Advanced options for printer.
    • Saddle Stitch Finisher – Not Installed
    • Punch Module – None
    • Output Tray Options (Right) – Finisher
    • Input Tray Options - 3 Tray Desk
    • Bypass Tray – Installed
    • Duplex Module – Installed
    • Hard Disk Drive – Not installed
    • Installed RAM – 128MB (350’s); 384 (355’s)
  12. Click Add to finish.

You can install the printer named "LibraryPooledPrinters" which will give you access to several printers on campus. Printing to this printer will allow your jobs to be retreived at any of the following printers:
