ResNet

Macintosh OS X Instructions

This page contains instructions for accessing your network storage space using Cornell College's ResNet as well as valuable network resources. If you are not sure what is required to set up a ResNet connection, please contact the ResNet Coordinator.

Make sure you have a Cornell user name and password. These are required for accessing the internet, the network and all network resources.

Windows 2000 Services for Mac includes the User Authentication Module. While not required, the UAM adds encryption to the communications between Windows servers and OS X computers. Without the UAM, passwords are more easily intercepted over the network. Installation of the UAM is strongly suggested.

1. Go to www.microsoft.com/mac/otherproducts.aspx?pid=windows2000sfm
2. Download the User Authentication Module
3. Open the .sit file and then open the folder created
4. Double click on the Install MSUAM for X.pkg icon and follow the prompts to install the program

Please note that if you do not install the User Authentication Module your user name and password may be sent in clear text. It is highly recommended that you install the UAM using the instrucions above.

These are the instructions for connecting your Home Drive

1. Click Go
2. Click Connect To Server...
3. In the Server Address text box type:
   smb://srv2/student_home/username (your user name)
4. Click connect
   You may click the + button to have this folder stored for later use
5. When prompted, enter your user name and password as:
   domain: cornell-college
   user name: your Cornell user name
   password: your Cornell password
6. You may add the information to your keychain if you like (your information will be stored for later use)
7. Click OK
8. An icon for you home directory will be placed on your desktop

These are the instructions for connecting your Web Drive

1. Click Go
2. Click Connect To Server...
3. In the Server Address text box type:
   smb://mac-people/people/username (your user name)
4. Click connect
   You may click the + button to have this folder stored for later use
5. When prompted, enter your user name and password as:
   domain: cornell-college
   user name: your Cornell user name
   password: your Cornell password
6. You may add the information to your keychain if you like (your information will be stored for later use)
7. Click OK
8. An icon for you home directory will be placed on your desktop

These are the instructions for connecting the applications Drive

1. Click Go
2. Click Connect To Server...
3. In the Server Address text box type:
   smb://srv2/apps
4. Click connect
   You may click the + button to have this folder stored for later use
5. When prompted, enter your user name and password as:
   domain: cornell-college
   user name: your Cornell user name
   password: your Cornell password
6. You may add the information to your keychain if you like (your information will be stored for later use)
7. Click OK
8. An icon for you home directory will be placed on your desktop

These are the instructions for connecting the assignments Drive

1. Click Go
2. Click Connect To Server...
3. In the Server Address text box type:
   smb://srv2/assignments
4. Click connect
   You may click the + button to have this folder stored for later use
5. When prompted, enter your user name and password as:
   domain: cornell-college
   user name: your Cornell user name
   password: your Cornell password
6. You may add the information to your keychain if you like (your information will be stored for later use)
7. Click OK
8. An icon for you home directory will be placed on your desktop
