IDEA Institute- Leadership at Cornell
The IDEA Institute is a program that began 2 years ago with the hope of encouraging our students to become active participants in the leadership process. We utilize the philosophy that leadership is not a position, but a set of skills that can be obtained by all members of the Cornell community. Each individual has talents and skills that are a benefit to our campus and we seek to provide our students with the opportunity to build those skills in a supportive, developmental program.
There are programs each block that are designed to assist our students in developing those skills. We utilize the Social Change Model of Leadership and the Cornell College values to guide our program. It is our hope that if a student completes the IDEA Institute curriculum that they will have gained the following:
Individuals
Raised awareness and understanding of various leadership styles and approaches
A realization of, appreciate for, and respect for diversity and multicultural perspectives
Awareness of values, ethics, and beliefs of themselves and others
An understanding of one's own identity and culture
Defining
An understanding that leadership is a process rather than a position
An understanding that everyone has leadership capacity
An analysis of contexts that influence the leadership process
Everyday
To make meaningful connections within the college community to achieve their education, social, and personal potential
To understand the services and support available to be successful students at Cornell
Actions
To be involved with a co-curricular activity
To have the ability to articulate personal skills and abilities
To be able to seek and provide from and for others
To have an increased marketability and communication skills for post graduate success
