Registering Students for Blocks 5 - 8

 Advisor Instructions

 Monday, October 22 - Friday, November 2, 2012

  1. Appointment Times: Schedules must be submitted by the student and approved by the advisor by noon on November 2nd to be included in the bidding process. If an advisee has not contacted you by October 26, you should contact the student and schedule a time to meet with him or her.
  2. Upper Level Student Considerations: If you have a transfer student with senior or advanced junior standing who needs certain courses in order to be graduated this year or early next year, please have the student confer with Jonna Higgins-Freese before registering. We can do a preliminary graduation analysis to be certain that all requirements will be met with the proposed schedule of courses.
  3. Registration Worksheets: were given to each of your advisees. Additional copies can be printed at the Registrar’s website. Select “Registration” and “Enrollment Worksheet” at http://www.cornellcollege.edu/registrar/reg-trms-5-8/index.shtml.
    1. Do not repeat courses for which credit has been earned. (If the student wishes to take a course for credit from which s/he was exempted by AP or IB exams, s/he may do so, but the exam credit will be removed from the transcript).
    2. If the student has taken more courses than our records show, please remind them to request the institution send an official transcript or request exam scores from the testing agency by the end of Block 8.
    3.  Students cannot register for courses for which exam scores or transfer work will provide a prerequisite until the prerequisites are recorded on the transcript.
    4. Remember that students can bid on first and second choices for this registration period.  Directions are included in the instructions for the online registration system.  This is an option, but it is not required, nor will it be possible in all cases, since students can enter a particular course number in only one block (i.e., students cannot bid on ENG 111 as a first choice in Block 5 and a second choice in Block 6.)
  4. Student preparation: Each student will receive an Enrollment Worksheet for On-Line Registration in campus mail on or about October 18. They have been instructed to bring this sheet to their registration conference along with their unofficial transcript and current schedule. This worksheet is intended to inform your discussion with the student and will only be returned to the Registrar's Office if a course cannot be registered through the Cornell Registration System. Examples:
    1. A waived prerequisite.
    2. Registering for a course that requires a writing course as a prerequisite. The student is registered for ART 151 or EDU 240 in block 2 but has not yet completed the course. See note on the Enrollment Worksheet.
  5. Bidding: Students have a total of 40 points to bid for these four blocks. Please help them choose a course for each block. Think about which courses will be most popular and consider choosing one course in each block that the student finds desirable but which may be less popular. Note: There is no sequential bidding in this registration period. You must bid separately for every course.
  6. Seats Available: Seats shown in the Cornell Registration System are seats taken.
  7. After Registration: Student schedules will be visible through Self Service but are subject to change and will not be final until Tuesday, November 13. We will provide you with a list of your advisees who need to attend Accommodation Evening, and a list of those who obtained all their
  8. Accommodation: To enable students to add a replacement course, advisors of students with a “NO COURSE” must attend the Accommodation Session, Thursday, November 15th at 6:00 p.m. in The Commons.
