Seasonal Flu Vaccine
Update 11-06-09
As of today, there is no seasonal flu vaccine in the area - Mt. Vernon, Cedar Rapids or Iowa City.
Most places are hopeful that more will arrive within the next 2-3 weeks. The Health Center is monitoring this situation on a daily basis and will update you on this bulletin board and the Student Gateway, when we learn of availability.
H1N1 Update
H1N1 Flu Information and Precautions
It's Care Package Time
With our first case of H1N1 we have found that many of our students don't own thermometers. They can purchase thermometers at the Health Center for $5, but having students be able to monitor their temperatures while observing our protocol for self-isolation is a key part of our plan to minimize exposure and spread of the H1N1 virus. You can help be part of the Cornell public health response! How about sending your student a care package which includes a digital thermometer? Drug stores have them available for around $5. Students LOVE getting care packages and this would be a great item to put in one. Thanks for your help as the campus nurses do their best to care for our sick students on campus and work to keep our healthy students healthy.

Financial Assistance
Due to the current economic recession Cornell has experienced a significant increase in students wanting to work on campus. The college has responded in a variety of ways to this issue. We applied for and received additional federal work study assistance made possible for 2009-10 through stimulus funding. Next, we created new work positions on campus in order to employ more students. In another positive note, these additional positions are enabling the college to address other student interests by expanding hours in Cole Library and in the Small Multi-Sports Center and as well as by offering late-night pizza delivery in the residence halls.
Register for New Emergency Alert System
Students are encouraged to register for the new R.A.M. Emergency System. This state-of-the-art R.A.M. (rapid alert messaging) system will allow you to receive instant and simultaneous messages sent to all registered mobile phones, Blackberrys, pagers and e-mail. Messages will be of an urgent or emergency nature only. This system will be the surest way for you to receive notification if matters critical to your immediate safety occur.
Students can register at https://secure.cornellcollege.edu/campus_safety. Registration is simple and will take only a minute. Students will need to register only once while attending Cornell and notifications will terminate upon graduation. Users may opt out of the system at any time.
