Off-campus Study Photo Contest
2012 ACM Photo Contest
The images of off-campus study resonate in students' minds years after their experiences. Shared, these images can tell powerful stories about new insights, transformed perspectives, and powerful new forms of learning. ACM colleges have been pioneers in off-campus study and have collaborated since the early 1960s to provide distinctive liberal arts off-campus study opportunities in the U.S. and around the world.
To celebrate this history and the important role of off-campus study in liberal arts education, the ACM member colleges invite students to submit photographs from their off-campus study experiences for the annual all-ACM photography contest.
2012 Contest Rules
The 2012 contest will feature three separate categories: Artistry, People, and Stories.
Winning photographs will go beyond the typical tourist shot and demonstrate cross-cultural learning- students actively engaged with the local culture instead of just observing. Photos that illustrate the interdisciplinary nature of liberal arts education will be favored. The judges will also consider creativity and artistry in the composition of the photos. A description is required for each photo to provide context for the judges, especially for awarding prizes in the "Stories" category.
Eligibility: Current students who have studied off-campus while enrolled at Cornell College.
Deadline: Monday, November 5th, 4:00PM
Prizes: One grand prize winner will receive $200. First place prizes are awarded $100, second place prizes: $75, third place prizes: $50, and honorable mentions are awarded a $10 giftcard. Judges will award first, second, and third place winners for each of the three categories.
Entry requirements: One copy of each photo (minimum 8" by 10" printed professionally at high resolution on photo-grade paper) must be submitted. In addition, each photo must be accompanied by a high resolution digital copy (jpeg) and an online submission form. Student's must complete and print this form and return it to the Off-Campus Study Office, along with their photo submission.
In some cases, descriptions may be used when judging photos. Judges for the contest will include International & Off-Campus Coordinator Cassandra Krumbholz, a member of the International & Off-Campus Studies Oversight Committee (ISOC) and one faculty member from Cornell College's Art Department. All participants will be notified of the winning entries by email on or before November 28th, 2011. Submissions that have been nominated for ACM's Off-Campus Study Photo Contest will also be notified at this time. A link to view all submissions, including the winning entries, will be provided at this time. All submitted photos may be used and/or reproduced by Cornell College for marketing and advertising purposes.
