What to Expect on Move In Day

You will be able to begin moving in at 8:30 am on Tuesday, August 25.  We will not be able to let you move in before then due to all the hall arrangements we make prior to your arrival.
When you arrive in Mt. Vernon, you will see big “real estate-type” signs directing you to follow the signs to your building.  Here’s how that process will go:

  • When you drive up, volunteers will unload your belongings on the curb while you pick up your keys.
  • Someone must stay with your car and move it to a remote parking lot once it is unloaded.
  • Please mark your boxes with your room number.  Any unmarked boxes will be marked that morning.  It helps our process run more smoothly if you already have them marked.
  • Pack light in reasonably sized boxes as carrying really heavy things up the stairs can be difficult.
  • If lines are long for moving into your hall, we would suggest you start your day at validation in the Multi-Sport Center.

The lingo of the day:

AD—Assistant Director of Residence Life—the full-time professional staff member who lives in your area.

Facilities Management—The campus fix-it people.  If you have a maintenance request, they will get to it quickly.  Remember that over 300 people are moving in and may have requests.

SCS—The contracted housekeeping staff that help keep the halls clean.  Meet them and respect all the hard work they do.

RA—Resident Assistant—a student staff member who lives on your floor

HCA—Hall Council Advisor—advises hall council.

Connect Floor—A special residential leadership experience for first year students
