Macalester College, St. Paul, MN
Cornell Mock Trial traveled to St. Paul, Minnesota to compete in the
Macalester Trials November 4 through 6. In a field of 46 teams that
including programs such as the University of Chicago, University of
Southern California, and the University of Iowa, Cornell took home two
teams awards, finishing Sixth and Fourth in the field. Team 1313,
consisting of Tim Bingham, James Hoeffgen, Claire McGuire, Elle Pope,
Tommy Cooke, and Leonard Schlanger, took sixth place with a record of 6
wins and 2 losses, defeating teams from the University of Wisconsin -
Superior and the University of Minnesota - Duluth, and splitting with
squads from University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and the University of
Iowa. Team 1314, consisting of Brandon Crawford, Melissa Mannon, Tom
Kirk, Neil McCray, David Miller, Angela Lubkeman, Mackenzie Dreeszen,
and Albert Lin, took fourth place with a record of 6 wins, 1 loss, and 1
tie, defeating teams from the University of St. Thomas, the University
of Chicago, and the University of Southern California, and tying and
dropping their only ballot to Macalester College. In the teams second
"official" outing of the year, this is an excellent indicator of great
things to come.
Rounding out the team awards, Cornell also had four individuals
recognized for outstanding individual performances. For the second
tournament in a row, Brandon Crawford was recognized both as an
outstanding witness for his portrayal of Dr. Ashley Norton, a chemist
specializing in the downfalls of breathalyzer testing, and an
outstanding attorney for his great work as a prosecutor representing the
State of Midlands. Tim Bingham was also honored as an outstanding
attorney, receiving his honor for his potrayl of a defense attorney
defending wrongfully accused Danny Dawson. Finally, Neil McCray was
recognized as an outstanding witness for his portrayl of Ryan Foster, a
police officer specializing in accident reconstruction.
Many congratulations to the entire Cornell College Mock Trial team for
putting in the long hours required to bring about such great results.
