Public Library Assistant
The Russell D. Cole Library invites applications for the position of Public Library Assistant. This library is unique in that it is a collaborative setting which serves as a public library to the Mount Vernon community, as well as a college library for the students of Cornell College. The position is approved by the City of Mount Vernon, but is employed by Cornell College.
The Public Library Assistant works to develop and implement various public library programs with an emphasis on services to youth; including after school programs; promotes and publicizes the youth services program in the school and in the community; works collaboratively with the Public Library Director on various library projects; works assigned hours at the first floor circulation desk; assists with collection development. Job duties include youth program planning, collection development and circulation desk.
This is a 15 hour per week position, including one evening. The job involves prolonged sitting, as well as moderate lifting, carrying, reaching, stooping, manual dexterity, clear speech, and visual and hearing acuity.
The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree
and experience working with children in an educational setting. Additionally, a state public librarian
certification is required, or willingness to obtain it.
