Student Life

This position is primarily responsible for assisting with the coordination of the Cornell New Student Orientation (NSO) program and assisting with Commons Information Desk functions.    

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with the functions at the Commons Information Desk.
  Answer phones (including switchboard and campus safety dispatch).
  Assist walk-up patrons.
  Provide support and assistance to the Information Desk Coordinator.

• Assist with the coordination of the Cornell New Student Orientation Program.
  Monitor student progress on completing pre-matriculation requirements (per student Personal Checklist).
  Assist with planning and coordination of validation process.
  Attend weekly NSO Staff meetings during the summer.
  Answer online and telephone inquiries about NSO.
  Develop of a teambuilding resource guide for Peer Advocates.
  Develop a campus guide map.

• Assist Residence Life Staff.
  Assist with check-in and check-out processes as needed.
  Serve on the summer on-call rotation.

• Assist the Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students with research projects.

WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports to the Director of Student Life and works with the Director of Student Activities  Daily contact with students, faculty, staff, and the public; frequent contact with community agencies and organizations.

Excellent interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for creative endeavors.  Ability to work autonomously.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:

Knowledge of the Cornell New Student Orientation Program and an understanding of the various components that make this program successful.
