Why Study History?

History allows us to understand the developments that have brought mankind to where it is today. As much as psychology helps us understand behavior, economics helps us understand money, and physics helps us understand the world we live in, history helps us understand where we are and how we got here. Because as we all know, sometimes in life the destination often doesn't matter so much as the journey.

Studying history lets us relive that journey. And to misquote a famous saying, "Those who fail history are doomed to repeat it."

Why at Cornell?

Cornell's unique One-Course-At-A-Time (OCAAT) plan permits students to immerse themselves in the ideas, projects, lectures, and reading involved with studying history without having the hassle of dealing with other classes. Students at colleges under the semester system must juggle five or six classes of homework and classwork at a time - putting Cornell students at a distinct advantage to study their topics of choice with fewer distractions.
