Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dies

 

 

 

 

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968. Riots erupted all over the country for the next week in over 120 cities. Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the primary leaders of the nonviolent civil rights movement. Dr. King was the leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference which was a major advocate for nonviolence demonstrations. The SCLC organized the March on Washington in 1963 where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream….” speech.
