Center for Teaching and Learning at Cole Library
The Writing Studio, located on the first floor of Cole Library, guides students through the process of writing. Consultants work with students on an individual basis to help them become better writers. With a staff of twenty peer consultants from nearly every academic discipline, the Writing Studio is equipped to help students with any kind of writing assignment at any stage of the writing process. Consultants often meet with students several times as a paper develops from brainstorming and outlining to those final, last-minute touches.
Laura Farmer, Writing Studio Director, and Shawn Doyle, Writing Consultant for First-year Students, provide specialized support for students desiring extra help. Through working with academic consultants and librarians, students develop academic support networks outside the classroom.
The consulting librarians assist students in the research process. Together the librarians and instructors work with students to access, evaluate, and create new knowledge using a wide range of internet and print materials. In addition to team-teaching in the classroom, librarians are available for one-on-one research sessions with students. Student papers and projects often are stronger because of this collaboration.
