Russell Hall's design incorporated many LEED standards including high efficiency windows and doors, extra insulation in the attic and exterior walls, high-efficiency gas furnaces, low water use toilets, CO2 detectors in commons spaces to control outside air flow, high-efficiency gas water heaters, and building automation systems to control heating and cooling set-points and availability based on outside air temperatures.
Silver award from Alliant Energy
Russell Hall has received the "Silver Award" from Alliant Energy for achieving 18.8 percent electric savings and 27.1 percent gas savings. The suite-style residence hall houses 96 upper class students. It includes 24 suites within the 3-story building. These savings reduce the building’s Co2 emissions by 110 tons, which is comparable to removing 20 passenger vehicles from our roads or powering 14 Iowa homes.
