Internships, Independent Studies, and Job Shadowing

The Dimensions Program is committed to assisting students in having a rewarding internship, independent study, and/or job shadowing experience. It is our goal that any student who wishes to complete an internship or independent study is able to do so. Dimensions does this through the following ways:

  • By working collaboratively with the Career Services Office to help you locate an internship opportunity and prepare you for that opportunity.
  • By setting up job shadowing opportunities for you via a network of Cornell alumni and friends of the College.
  • By providing financial support for internship and independent study experiences that take you off the Cornell campus. Applications for these funds should be submitted as early as possible, allowing the Dimensions Operating Committee ample to review the proposal. Applications that are not receive at least two weeks prior to the start of the internship or independent study experience will not be considered for funding

Dimensions has funding available to provide internship and independent study support to students who participate in block-long internships and independent study related to the many fields of healthcare. These funds are available on a competitive basis (by application only) and are awarded by the operating committee of the Dimensions Program. Funding is as follows:

  • Within daily driving distance (approximately 60 miles): Mileage will be calculated as round trip to destination from Mt. Vernon as determined by map distance and multiplied by number of trips verified by internship site. Funding is provided at the rate of $0.275/mile, up to a maximum of $200. Note the mileage rate is subject to change based upon IRS ruling and Cornell College policies.
  • Midwest, contiguous states: $500/block
  • East and West Coasts and the Southern US: $1000/block
  • International Experiences: $1500/block

For more information regarding internship opportunities and the funding application process, please contact Julie Barnes at 895-4350 or JBarnes@cornellcollege.edu.  The Operating Committee of the Dimensions program reviews all applications. All experiences must be done for credit as an internship or independent study. Awards are determined based on the relevance of the experience to healthcare and a review of all application materials.
