Five Points of Distinction

1. Excellent Preparation in the Natural Sciences
Excellent preparation in the natural sciences serves as the core of Dimensions. Above all, students benefit from broad and deep instruction in the traditional fields associated with pre-medical and allied health fields programs. There are also opportunities for students to pursue advanced study in the natural sciences.

2. An Uncommon Infusion of the Humanities and Social Sciences
What sets this program apart is the emphasis placed on the exploration of the liberal arts connection to healthcare professions. The areas of exploration include verbal and written communication, human relationships, socio-economic factors of healthcare, and the evolution of healthcare in the 21st century. Students broaden their perspectives with courses such as “Healthcare Economics,” “Medical Ethics,” “Comparative Healthcare Policy ,” "Drawing: Anatomy and the Body," and “Medical Anthropology.” New perspectives are also gained through on-campus workshops, seminars, and symposia.

3. Meaningful Integration of Intentional Learning
Intentional learning is more than simply experiential learning. It integrates intangibles such as professional networking, workshops, visiting lecturers, case studies, meaningful summer employment opportunities, internships, reading groups, study abroad, job shadowing, student organizations, and service projects. It takes place in classrooms and labs and in practical, hands-on settings around the world via internships and research experiences.

4. Professional Sculpting
The Dimensions Resource Center provides individualized discipline-specific guidance on healthcare careers and professional school options, MCAT and other standardized testing preparation, strong alumni and industry connections, and advanced career planning services beginning in the student’s first year at Cornell.

5. Success of Cornell Graduates
Success of graduates hinges on three outcomes: placement rates of graduates into professional schools; the level of quality based on the prestige of those schools; and the broad range of professional healthcare fields Cornell graduates enter.
