Steve Miller '65 led the rams to a 45-35 victory over the University of Dubuque to close Cornell's season and his 15-year career as head football coach. |
After 15 years as head football coach, Steve Miller 65 has left athletics
to become associate director of development for planned and major gifts at Cornell.
Were very pleased with Steves coaching career, President Les Garner said. Steve has positioned us to recruit an excellent coach, and he will move on to a new role in which he can make yet another significant contribution to his alma mater.
The 2001 Rams finished 7-3 and Miller was named Iowa Conference Football Coach of the Year and Division III regional coach of the year by the American Football Coaches Association.
Throughout his coaching career, Miller was involved in athletics fund raising. He was directly involved with the $1.3 million campaign to build the outdoor track, the Meyer Strength Training Facility,
and upcoming renovations to the locker rooms.
The new assignment continues Millers 30-year association with the college. In 1965 he became Cornells first NCAA Postgraduate Scholar. He has been head coach of six varsity sports during his time at
Cornell, from 1966-72 and since 1980, and is a member of the colleges Athletic Hall of Fame. He was athletics director for 11 years.
