Renovation
of the pedestrian mall brought a variety of construction equipment
to campus over the summer, so with a track hoe handy, the Rock was
lifted, the hole repacked, and the 5,000-pound boulder placed fully
above ground. Access to the pedestrian mall was limited through
the summer as crews replaced sidewalks and laid a new walkway of
concrete pavers from College Hall to The Commons. Lighting wasaddedalong
the length
of Marie Fletcher Carter Pedestrian Mall, and maple trees lining
the mall will be planted in the fall. A chapel garden featuring
ornamental pear trees and a limestone terrace was installe between
King Chapel and Bowman-Carter Residence Hall.
