Fellowship Opportunities


Sophomore, junior and senior students are eligible to apply for a Cornell Fellowship. Students placed in a Fellowship must be enrolled at the college for the duration of their Fellowship experience. Students are eligible to apply for multiple fellowships, but selection is generally limited to one fellowship per student.

Please review the Fellowship Checklist prior to applying. Submit all application materials to RJ Holmes via the online Fellows application prior to the posted deadline. Unless otherwise noted, Fellows applications are accepted on rolling basis with a monthly deadline of the 3rd Friday of each block during the academic year.

Brubaker Fellowship in Community Advocacy Deadline:

Description:

This fellowship involves service to under-resourced communities in partnerships with local community churches in the Fox River valley. Training, supervision, and coordination is through The Riverwoods Christian Center in St. Charles, Illinois, and the Fellow will work on programs integrating families into church-supported programs, with programming for children and youth a particular focus. The Fellow's religious convictions must be consistent with Christian beliefs; a signed statement of faith is required for working in Riverwoods programs, and a background check will be performed. The fellowship offers a highly-motivated student a two-month research experience with a premier research laboratory. The fellow may partner with successful researchers on various topics including atherosclerosis, lypoproteins, leukocyte biology, and areas related to the Baylor College of Medicine’s Children’s Nutrition Research Center. Advanced students in the sciences with strong laboratory experience preferred. Description:

A fellowship for students with a strong background and interest in the following bureaus: Water Quality, Air Quality, Field Services and Compliance, Energy and Waste Management, Iowa Geological Survey and Land Quality. These fellowships are the ones most likely to involve biological, chemical, and geological research and should generally be sought by students who are eager and able to do such reseach.  Field Services and Compliance is the major exception and involves technical assistance by making routine inspections of permitted activities, handling citizen complaints and responding to spills of hazardous materials. The fellow will gain insight into the financial operations of Riverside Casino and Golf Resort. A main part of the fellowship involves managing the conversion process of a daily financial report. Background in finance, economics and business, and knowledge of Excel and Access preferred.

Students selected for competitive internship programs or have designed their own internships may apply, in consultation with a faculty sponsor, for support as a Cornell Fellow. Fellowship proposals should include a detailed overview of the competitive internship program or organization where the internship is set up, an outline of the specific work to be accomplished as part of the internship and its connection to the student's academic and career goals, and the name and contact information for a site mentor for the internship program. The fellowship offers students a broad overview of, and experience in, administering a mid-size nonprofit organization. Responsibilities include leadership in two core projects for the Cedar Rapids Symphony and support with marketing, event planning, fundraising, ticket sales, and general operations.

A fellowship for students with a strong background and interest in politics and public policy.  The work involves researching the successes and failures of other states in natural resource policy and how the experience elsewhere can guide Iowa in resource planning.  Also included during the months when the Iowa Legislature is in session is work with DNR staff members who consult with members of the Legislature serving on committees that shape law and policy for Iowa natural resources. Riesen Fellowship in Applied Economics and Business Deadline:

  • Hotel corporate office of Radisson/Country Inns in Minneapolis/ St. Paul, MN
  • Restaurant corporate office for TGIF (in Dallas, TX) or Famous Dave’s (in Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN)
  • Banking in either Phoenix, AZ, or Minneapolis-St. Paul, MN

Rogers Fellow in Environmental Studies Deadline:

The Fellow will be matched with a site on or near the University of South Carolina. Possible projects include research on pelagic fishes in the Gulf of Mexico, research on policies and practices related to environmental law, or sustainable seafood practices involving the seafood industry, tourism, and economics.
