Referred to as the "mosquitoes of the plants", leafhoppers, when in large groups, often cause tissue irritation to plants. Leafhoppers also carry viruses which attack plants. Many leafhoppers focus their attention on one species of plant and often a select part of that specialized plant. Other species of leafhoppers discriminate, but feed on a number of plant species.
