Ommatidia

Insects, especially mantids, have what is called a pseudopupil. This pseudopupil looks very similar to the pupil that humans have in their eye, but it is actually made of many ommatidia. Ommatidia are the individual units that make up the compound eye of an insect. Insects see things through several ommatidia at the same time, like looking through many different windows at the same time, without moving their head.
