Labium

L is for Labium

Though, the labium is not a feature soley belonging to Coloradan insects, it is an important part of all insects.

The labium is the lower lip of an insect. It is one of three to seven appendages that are fused together to form the head. These appendages are used to grasp and ingest food material.

Many insects use the labium like a tongue. The housefly, for example, feeds by lapping food with its labium.
