Family name of the insects commonly known as lightningbugs or fireflies. The most well known feature of this adult insect is it's flashing abilities, which are an important part of courtship and mating. Larve of the Lampyridae family feed on other insects, snails and slugs and can be found in the water or in dead wood. Some species found in asia are fully aquatic and feed on underwater snails. Fireflies like moisture and are usually found in warm, humid climates.
