Eastern Pondhawk

 

The male eastern pondhawk can be identified by it's irridescent blue body.   This Dragonfly speeds over a still lake in search of food.

This insect, with the scientific name erythemis simplicicollis, is another species of dragonfly. This dragonfly is rich in brightness. The male is blue, while the female is green. These insects are common and widespread throughout the United States. This dragonfly is 1.5 inched long but is very aggressive for it's size. The eastern pondhawk is known for attacking its own species. The eastern pondhawk prefers still water to rushing rivers and it's diet consists of plants.
