Corixa is the scientific name of the insect commonly know as the waterboatman. These insects are members of the family Corixidae. The waterboatmen are often confused with a similar insect, called the backswimmer. Waterboatmen swim upright, unlike the upside down swimming backswimmers, and are of different color. Water boatman are also more flattened and elongated. Their oar-shaped hind legs help them to swim more efficiently in the water. The waterboatman is often seen in groups, swimming in ponds and other bodies of water. The main diet of the insect consists of algae or other marine plants, since they are herbivores.
