X is for e(X)tract An insect that does a lot of extracting is the tick. Ticks, like the American Dog Tick shown to the left, attach themselves to a host with their peircing mouth parts. Here, they will extract blood from the host. This blood serves as their food. Hosts usually include: cows, horses, humans, rodents, and dogs.
