Sawfly

In the early summer a wasp like insect starts to lay its eggs. This insect is the sawfly, so named because the female has a saw-like ridge on her abdomen to help her lay eggs. When the eggs hatch the larvae of the sawfly start feeding. Each species is fairly specific to what it will eat but there are enough species out there to make it so everything is in trouble. The damage that the sawfly does can range from almost none to complete devastation, depending on how many larvae are around. |
