Giant Waterbug

Giant Waterbugs are a delicacy in Thailand. They are either eaten whole or made into a sauce for dipping!

This aquatic insect breathes underwater witha sort of snorkel and scuba tank combination. They trap air in a bubble under their wings and resurface to refill the bubble.

Their bite injects poison that has the same potency as an equal amount of rattlesnake venom. Their long front legs have wicked hooked claws to seize other insects, snails and even small fish and frogs several times bigger than themselves!
