ear mites
Ear mites commonly live in the ears of cats, dogs, foxes, and ferrets. Once this insect gets in an ear, it doen't leave (at least not on its own). Animals that become infected with ear mites may rub or scratch their ears (sometimes causing them to bleed) and/or shake their head frequently to free the mites from their inner ear. If the problem gets too bad, the animal may require surgery.
