Cicadas feed on plants with their sucking and piercing mouthparts. They stick their mouth stylets into the plant's surface and suck the sap of the plant up through the tube formed by the concave surfaces of the two stylets. Cicadas spend the majority of their lives underground. Depending on the species, the cicada may spend anywhere from 6 to 17 years underground. |
