Ticks are common in Iowa, although thankfully most do not transmit disease. Some common diseases spread by ticks are lyme disease and human babesiosis. Ticks wait on plants such as grasses until a mammal walks by. Then the tick will attach itself to the mammal and feed on blood. Once full it leaves its host and waits for a new host to wander by. |
